Position Summary:
OtterBase is seeking an experienced and compassionate Manager of Patient Care Services to lead our clients’ OB/PEDS unit. This is a direct hire opportunity. Reporting directly to the Chief Nurse Executive, the Nurse Manager is responsible for the overall quality and safety of patient care within the department. This leadership role upholds the core competencies of communication, relationship-building, healthcare knowledge, leadership, professionalism, and business acumen, as defined by the Healthcare Leadership Alliance. In alignment with the principles of Magnet® designation, the Manager will continuously promote and foster nursing excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in nursing and organizational decision-making, including shared governance initiatives.
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care that respects individual rights and preferences.
- Promote coordination and integration of nursing care across the healthcare continuum.
- Supervise and support nursing staff; oversee daily operations including staffing and scheduling based on patient needs and nurse competencies.
- Provide ongoing staff education, mentorship, and performance evaluations in a fair and transparent manner.
- Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets.
- Support and encourage evidence-based practice through participation in research and quality improvement initiatives.
- Foster open communication with staff to ensure a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Other duties as assigned consistent with the role’s purpose and scope.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Bachelor of Science (BS).
- Candidates with an associate degree/diploma in nursing will be considered if they have 5+ years of relevant experience and commit to obtaining a BSN/BS within 3–5 years of hire.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan.
- BLS certification (Basic Life Support).
- Demonstrated leadership potential or prior experience in a middle management role.
- Clinical experience in OB and/or Pediatrics.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in nursing or a related field.
