Job Title: Quality Engineer

Shift & Schedule: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday
Location: Romulus, MI

Must be able to pass drug/background.

Job Summary:
The Quality Engineer plays a crucial role in improving business processes and optimizing product efficiency. This position involves ensuring compliance with quality standards, conducting thorough testing, and implementing corrective actions to drive product reliability and excellence. The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting skills, capable of identifying issues and implementing effective solutions.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Quality & Engineering Manager to establish, implement, and maintain the quality management system.
  • Partner with the Director of HR and Supply Chain Manager to develop and enforce quality procedures and policies.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) to identify problems and implement corrective actions to improve processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through methodologies like 5S, Kaizen, and lean techniques to enhance the quality system.
  • Assist the Supply Chain Manager and Production Supervisor in training operators to improve quality and safety awareness.
  • Work with the Director of HR to educate office staff on quality and safety procedures.
  • Liaise with HR, Administration, engineering, supply chain, sales, and production teams to ensure new products meet approved customer specifications.
  • Provide ongoing support to the Supply Chain Manager and Production Supervisor to ensure compliance with quality and safety requirements.
  • Conduct audits, close out findings, prepare audit reports, and determine corrective and preventive actions.
  • Perform quality and safety audits and inspections twice a week to identify areas for process improvement and ensure adherence to standards.
  • Serve as the primary contact for customers on quality-related matters.
  • Address customer complaints, analyze product failures, and communicate corrective and preventive actions, including conducting customer site visits.
  • Plan, organize, and manage receiving/outgoing quality and safety functions.
  • Manage supplier performance and conduct supplier audits.
  • Prepare Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) reports.
  • Create quality reports for customers, such as 8D reports.
  • Lead and manage IATF/TS certification, including managing, maintaining, and auditing the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Undertake additional duties and special projects as assigned by management.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in automotive manufacturing, specifically cylinder liner operations, is a plus.
  • International client experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with PCU components and metallic materials is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to maintain a documented system of quality policies and procedures.
